I’ve been seeing talk about Pinboard. I was intrigued by the service but didn’t want to subscribe to yet another thing, so I was looking for alternatives.
Has anyone tried using DEVONthink for this? If yes, how?
Do you save links as bookmarks, web archive or PDF?

  1. @vishae I use DEVONthink a lot to keep all my research. In the case of links, I save them most of the time as web archives. Just in case they might get taken down at some point. I was also trying to save them as PDF or Markdown Version with DEVONthink’s option to save without the clutter. But that’s not working with every website.

  2. @vishae I don’t use DEVONthink but I do use Pinboard. It’s not the only thing I use for research but I find it fantastic for bookmarks and web archives. I can send things to it from a variety of devices and applications, it’s easy to backup, and it’s cheap.

  3. @vishae I use both DEVONthink and Pinboard. For things I want as part of my “library” I save PDFs to DEVONthink. For things I may just want to look up later for reading or sharing I use Pinboard. There’s some overlap of course. I’ve used Pinboard for years and it’s always been great.

  4. @vishae I use Pinboard as a read it later and archiving. I use this script to run new Pinboard items run through a Markdown Service and save it to DEVONthink so I can also search the articles within DEVONthink, with this script if Markdown can’t be created it creates a OCR’d PDF.

  5. @vishae I’m a big fan of Pushpin for iOS. Pinswift is good too; however, the developer seems to be losing interest. The last update was Jan, adding iPhone X compatibility. The one before that was way back in 2016. Pushpin had a long break too, but now is getting frequent updates.

  6. @vishae I think I have all the iOS apps. Which one was updated most recently usually determines which one I use. Currently it’s Pinner, though Pushpin is nice because it can do full text search if you have the archiving plan.
